Library Of Ruina Guide Pt1 Notes
Glossary
Act
A full battle or "game" (in a match sense). Participants start with fully refreshed Light and Stagger Resist, and 3 (+1) Pages in hand. HP and Emotion Coins/Levels from previous Acts are retained. Acts end when all of the members of a team are defeated.
Block
Defensive Dice that reduces damage on loss, deals Stagger damage on win.
Blunt
Offensive Dice representing blunt attacks e.g. fists, hammers, etc.
Books
What the game revolves around; it is a Library after all. These items are used to invite Guests into the Library, and those Guests are then turned into Books when defeated in Receptions. These new Books can be used to invite more powerful Guests. Apart from inviting Guests and completing missions (e.g. collect Book XYZ to unlock something), Books serve as the game's booster packs / gacha / loot box and can be burned for Key and Combat Pages.
Bookshelf
A units "deck". Librarian's bookshelves contain 9 Combat Pages, the game will fill up empty slots with Pages from the default shelf.
Clash
Can refer to what happens in the Combat Phase when a Page is played against an incoming attack, or the situation when two Dice face off against each other.
Combat Page
A "card" containing a number of dice and abilities. Units start an Act with 3 Pages in hand and draws 1 Page every Scene.
Pages are played during the Planning Phase, and are used when it's the unit's turn to act (either Clash or One-sided Attack). On use of the Page, the Page's Light cost is subtracted from the unit's Light and all of the Dice in the Page are added to the Speed Dice's queue. The queues are then processed until either no dice are left to process or one (or both) of the units are dead.
Defensive Dice
Dice representing a defensive move. Can be Block or Evade
Dice
Not to be confused with Speed Dice. Represents an attack or defensive move performed as part of a Combat Page.
Emotion Coin
Represents heightening emotions, rewarded whenever something positive/negative happens on the battlefield.
Emotion Level
Levels up in between Scenes when a unit accumulates a certain amount of Emotion Coins.
In addition, the Team's Emotion Level also levels once a team accumulates a certain amount of Emotion Levels.
Evade
Defensive Dice that, on win, both restores Stagger Resist and is recycled.
Guest
Your enemies, you invite them by offering a chance to gain Books if they defeat your Librarians.
HP
The typical "if it goes down to zero, unit dies" health gauge. No official meaning, but the usual "Hit Points" or "Health Pool" is fine.
A stat that can be modified by equipping Key Pages.
Key Page
Represents a defeated Guest, can be equipped by Librarians to use their stats and abilities.
Librarian
Your units, you can update their Bookshelves and equip them with Key Pages.
Light
Resource for playing Pages i.e. "mana". Units start an Act with full Light and restores 1 Light every Scene.
The initial Light value is a stat that can be modified by equipping Key Pages.
Offensive Dice
Dice representing a defensive move. Deals damage upon rolling higher than the enemy. Can be Slash, Pierce or Blunt
One-sided Attack
Can refer to what happens in the Combat Phase when no Page is played against an incoming attack, or the situation when no Dice is left on one side in a Clash. The former essentially leads to the latter so they can be treated the same.
One-sided Attacks change how Dice operate, mostly on the Defensive Dice side.
Pierce
Offensive Dice representing piercing attacks e.g. spears, knife stabs, etc.
Reception
A "stage" or "mission". Main Receptions have a one or more Acts sandwiched between a pre- and post-battle story. Receptions can themselves be grouped as multiple parts, with invitations sent to the same group or organization, often with their fallen comrades' Books as the rewards for the later invites.
Resistances
Multipliers to incoming Slash/Pierce/Blunt damage to both HP/SR. Damage is calculated after all modifiers are applied (eg. Block damage reduction) and is rounded down. Block Stagger damage does not have a type and is normally not affected by resistance values.
A stat that can be modified by equipping Key Pages.
Scene
A "turn" or "round". Consists of a Planning phase where you give orders to your Librarians, followed by a Combat phase where orders are executed.
Slash
Offensive Dice representing slashing attacks e.g. broadswords, scythes, etc.
Speed Dice
Determines how many actions a unit can perform in a single Scene. Has a value rolled every Scene that determines the order they will act in the Combat phase.
The number of Speed Dice a unit has and their value ranges are unit stats that can be modified by equipping Key Pages.
Stagger Resist
How much damage a unit can take before becoming Staggered. No official abbreviation, but I use SR in the video over the wiki's STG to save some keystrokes and syllables.
A stat that can be modified by equipping Key Pages.
Staggered
aka "stunned". Staggered units can't act up to the next turn, where they will recover with full Stagger Resist. Their Resistances are also reduced to Fatal (2x damage received)
